Settling In

Coming home from a trip always brings mixed emotions—relief at being back…a quiet longing as the visit ends…a kind of wistfulness that lingers as you relive it through memory.

The thing about the trips I take is that I always seem to leave something behind. This time, it was my trusty planner—a significant loss. I write in it every morning, recording appointments and reflecting on the day before. Realizing I had left it behind felt like losing a small but important part of my routine.

So, I improvised.

I found a notebook in my backpack and set aside a moment or two each morning to record my thoughts while I was away. I knew that when I returned home, I could transfer those memories into my planner, placing each one carefully in its proper day.

Don’t ask me why this matters so much. That planner feels like a living record—a quiet archive of the moments that make up my days. And as I slowly and thoughtfully transcribed each memory into its place, I found myself reliving those sweet moments all over again.

There’s something comforting about letting the quiet settle in after a trip. About taking the time to reflect.

And now, when I find myself missing those small smiles and shared moments, I can open my planner and revisit them—one day at a time.
